What is Post-consumer Recycled Polyester?

Polyester is the world’s most widely used textile fibre. Virgin Polyester uses energy-intensive processes and is derived from non-renewable resources, petroleum and oil. It is not biodegradable, and unless recycled, ends up in our landfills or, worse, our oceans. Post-consumer Recycled Polyester is made from plastic waste collected from our oceans and landfills, such as plastic bottles, packaging, textile waste and fishing nets.

There is no difference in performance or quality when comparing Virgin Polyester and Recycled Polyester. Post-consumer Recycled Polyester is made by crushing the collected plastic waste into fine flakes, purifying and re-polymerising it, and creating the polyester chips treated in the same way as virgin polyester. They are spun into fibres and then woven or knit into fabrics. Polyester is loved because it is long-lasting, wrinkle-free, and easy to clean.
